Windows (MS Windows)
Windows is a computer operating
system that replaces the earlier MS-DOS shell program with
a graphics-oriented interface, using the windows paradigm.
Microsoft Windows built on the earlier Xerox Palo Alto Research
Center (PARC) and the Apple Macintosh (TM) window-oriented operating
systems. Based on the success of earlier versions, Microsoft
Windows has become the most used operating system in the world. (Current
versions include Windows 3.1, Windows-NT, and Windows-95)
Windows-NT and Windows95, like UNIX, include support for the
Internet TCP/IP network protocols as a standard component.
